Serving Copts is a Christian non profit organization that exists to
serve the nominal Christian population in Egypt and the Middle East. We
operate with the understanding that this Christian population is the door to accessing the rest of the Middle East with the gospel.
The countries of the Middle East may present the greatest challenge to global evangelization. Dominated by Islam, many nations of the Middle East are totally intolerant of Christianity. The Middle East is always hosting one or more wars, and these sometimes involve western powers, making it difficult for those representing the kingdom of God to present a witness that is free of the cultural trappings associated with politics. However, due to the fact that Egypt is home to the largest Christian minority in the Middle East, it presents a unique opportunity for Christians to engage other nominal Christians, as well as their Muslim neighbors and friends.
We believe that these Orthodox Christians are uniquely positioned to create a lasting impact in the region. And it is our goal to support them in this endeavor. We must supply them with Gods word in a way that they can engage with it. We must train them to be Godly leaders in their difficult context. And we must supply them with the tools and resources they need to engage their world.
As westerners, the fact is, we can be met with a great deal of resistance because we represent a system that many in the Middle East are diametrically opposed to. Because they have been taught from birth to reject western thought, they often times reject our message before even hearing it. In addition, if we are not rejected we still will have very little impact in most cases because we as westerners are so different from them in every way. Local Coptic Orthodox Christians on the other hand share the same culture and have many similarities with their neighbors. It is our heart at Serving Copts to do just that, serve the local Christians so that they can make the greatest impact on their own culture.
